LAND FES DIVERSITY Fukagawa is a project where dancers and diverse participants—regardless of disability, age, or nationality—come together to co-create dance video works in Fukagawa. Between 2021 and 2024, 18 dance artists and more than 500 participants gathered, connecting through various forms of dance and together creating new urban landscapes.

A dance film created together by seven dance artists and participants, set in Fukagawa—a community blessed with rich waterfronts and brimming with old-town charm. The theme is “Walking.” While walking is an everyday action for everyone, it vividly reflects each individual’s personality. Guided by the artists, walking transforms into dance.
In LAND FES DIVERSITY Fukagawa, dance artists and participants from diverse backgrounds co-create a dance video against the backdrop of various scenes in Fukagawa. The theme this time was “Release.” – Bringing to light what has been hidden – Unleashing the thoughts and emotions held within – Letting go of attachments and fixed ideas to find freedom Based on simple movements interpreted differently by each dance artist, the participants joined in to generate dances full of energy.
Under the direction of two pairs of dance artists, we held a total of eight days of workshops and video shoots. With the artists’ guidance, participants tried out various forms of dance, creating rich communication through their bodies and sharing gentle moments of connection. The result is two dance films filled with the charm of Fukagawa and the power of dance to bring people together.

The title is “Mizumari” (a large orb formed by splashing sprays and small droplets of water). Dance artists visited Fukagawa Enmichi, a multi-purpose welfare facility that includes a senior day-service center and an after-school program, to deliver dance workshops. Assisting them were members of the Scramble Dance Project, a group that aims to co-create dance regardless of disability. This piece is based on the image of multigenerational energies intermingling like droplets—bouncing on the river’s surface, creating waves, and spreading ripples.
